We are currently seeking a driven individual, who would be keen to advance their career in fire testing within a large multi-faceted organisation, to join our team in an ongoing role!
CSIRO Fire Testing Services combines expertise and full-scale fire test capabilities to simulate a wide range of fire scenarios, providing a unique fire research, consulting and testing facility to industry. Registered by the National Association of Testing Authorities (NATA), our testing facilities are designed and equipped to conduct a wide range of fire tests based on Australian, international and other standards. The group also provides services in interpretation of results, assessing conformity with specification and standards, research & development, and construction in bushfire-prone areas.
In this hands-on, lab-based role as a 'Technical Officer - Fire-Resistance Testing', you will play a key active role in all testing activities, including project management, specimen documentation and construction, test instrumentation and technical reports in accordance with the test standards. While the primary focus of your work will be to coordinate directly with commercial clients and conduct structural fire resistance testing of construction/building systems and elements, you will also have the opportunity to be involved in other types of fire testing and ad hoc projects & research activities. You will also bring your excellent communication and technical writing skills to work collaboratively & communicate efficiently with a team of experienced laboratory staff and various commercial clients and prepare technical reports.

Your duties will include:
- Assisting with the conduct of sponsored fire testing at all stages from initial client contact, the determination of client requirements, supervision of specimen construction, testing, data analysis and technical reporting in accordance with Australian and International fire test standards.
- Providing instrumentation of test specimens in accordance with the requirements of relevant Australian and International test standards, as well as specimen instrumentation test documentation (see position description for more details on the specific test methodologies).
- Supervising the safe construction of test specimens and assisting with the efficient operation of the structural fire laboratory as specified in the Business Process Control Manual in accordance with NATA registration requirements.
- Demonstrating knowledge of and adhering to HSE requirements pertaining to a testing laboratory environment.
- Assisting with the design and supervision of performance-based research and testing procedures on an ad hoc basis to fulfil commercial client expectations.

Salary: AU$89K – AU$101K pa + up to 15.4% superannuation

To be considered you will need:
- Testing experience in a NATA accredited testing laboratory related to building products and systems or the successful completion of tertiary qualifications in relevant Engineering or Science fields related to the performance of materials under elevated temperatures.
- Good communication skills and experience with the writing of detailed technical reports.
- Knowledge of the Building Code of Australia (BCA), particularly the Deemed to Satisfy provisions relating to fire resistance.
- Knowledge of Australian and International fire testing standards.
- Project management experience.
- Knowledge of HSE requirements pertaining to a fire testing laboratory environment.
