The opportunity
Join CSIRO’s Mechatronics Engineering team to help develop innovative sensor technologies.
We’re seeking an Electronics Technical Officer to support a range of engineering projects through PCB layout and assembly, circuit testing, and fabrication of electronic enclosures. You’ll work alongside experienced engineers and be part of a collaborative, multidisciplinary environment.

Your high-level duties will include:
- Planning, designing, and fabricating electronic devices and systems to support diverse engineering projects.
- Applying your electronics expertise to develop practical solutions within a collaborative project team.
- Assisting senior engineers in the development and testing of advanced sensor technologies.
- Layout and assembly of printed circuit boards (PCBs).
- Fabricating instrument enclosures and integrating components.
- Testing circuits and systems to ensure they meet performance specifications.
Role particulars
Location & office arrangements: Sydney (Lindfield), NSW; full time on site
Salary: AU$66k - AU$84k per annum (pro-rata for part-time) plus up to 15.4% superannuation
Tenure & work schedule: Specified term of 3 years; full time (part-time at minimum 0.8 FTE is negotiable)

As the successful candidate, you will bring:
Essential criteria
- A relevant trade certificate or diploma such as a TAFE Certificate IV or Diploma or equivalent relevant work experience in electronics and control or electronics and communications.
- Knowledge of the fundamentals of electronic circuit analysis.
- To be able to layout simple printed circuit boards.
- Possess good soldering technique with the ability to solder surface-mount components.
- Good oral and written communication skills coupled with excellent attention to detail.
Applications that show familiarity with 3D printing, Altium Designer, AutoCAD Inventor, Python programming, or have strong mechanical aptitude will also be highly regarded.
