The opportunity

CSIRO is seeking a skilled Communications Officer to join the Pawsey Supercomputing Research Centre. You’ll support Pawsey’s strategic narrative through impactful copywriting, content development, and digital storytelling.

 

This role helps deliver high-quality external communications and internal engagement initiatives, contributing to Pawsey’s national and global reputation. Reporting to the Communications Manager, you’ll create strategic, accessible content that supports major programs, engages external audiences, and amplifies the work of researchers and innovators.

 

You’ll work closely with colleagues to craft aligned messaging, form strong relationships, and represent Pawsey with professionalism. The ideal candidate has strong journalism and digital media skills, a curiosity for science and tech, and a talent for turning complex ideas into compelling stories.

Your duties will include:

  • Develop high-quality written and multimedia content to support Pawsey’s strategic priorities across digital, media, and internal channels.
  • Translate complex scientific and technical information into engaging, accessible content for diverse audiences.
  • Support and deliver integrated campaigns, events, and stakeholder engagement initiatives that enhance Pawsey’s visibility.
  • Maintain and optimise content on Pawsey’s digital platforms, ensuring consistency, accuracy, and accessibility.
  • Monitor and report on communication performance, using insights to improve impact and effectiveness.
  • Collaborate with internal teams and stakeholders, upholding CSIRO values, including safety, inclusion, and professional conduct.

 

Location: Kensington, Western Australia

Salary: AU$96,811.00 - AU$109,527.00 per annum (pro-rata for part-time) plus up to 15.4% superannuation

To be considered you will need:

Essential
(Under CSIRO policy, only those who meet all essential criteria can be appointed.)

 

  • Tertiary qualification in communications, journalism or related field, or equivalent experience, with a track record in creating and measuring digital content across platforms.
  • Strong writing and editing skills, with the ability to translate complex topics into engaging narratives and conduct effective interviews.
  • Proficiency with digital tools including graphic/video editing, CRM systems (e.g., HubSpot), and CMS platforms (e.g., WordPress), with sound knowledge of publishing best practices.
  • Well-developed organisational skills to manage competing priorities, with flexibility to travel or work outside standard hours when required.
  • Demonstrated commitment to innovation, continuous improvement, and collaborative knowledge sharing within a values-based workplace.

 

Desirable

  • Experience working in research, higher education, or government environments.
  • Experience in podcast production or audio storytelling.
