The opportunity 

The On-Site Support team within CSIRO’s Information Management and Technology (IMT) function provides timely and effective IT support across CSIRO sites nationwide.  

As the On-Site Support Officer, you will provide hands-on assistance for on-site tasks, as well as remote support for incidents and requests, including for staff based overseas. 


Successful applicants will demonstrate strong IT knowledge, excellent customer service, and the ability to respond efficiently to a wide range of technical and physical issues. 
 


You will also contribute to service improvement by applying innovative solutions, supporting key stakeholders, and helping integrate IMT technical services with CSIRO’s strategic and organisational objectives.
 

Eligibility 
Applications for this position are open to Australian Citizens only. Appointment to this role is subject to provision of a national police check and obtaining/maintaining a Negative Vetting 1 security clearance.

Your high-level duties will include: 

  • Deployment of PCs, laptops, monitors, printers, and other IT equipment. 

  • Network port patching and software fault resolution. 

  • Developing and maintaining relationships across virtual teams. 

  • Supporting multi-disciplinary, regionally dispersed teams. 

  • Overseeing and mentoring less experienced staff as required.

  • Location and office arrangements: Newcastle, NSW 

  • Salary: AU$73,567 - AU$93,630 per annum (pro-rata for part-time) plus up to 15.4% superannuation 

  • Tenure & work schedule: Indefinite, full-time (options for part-time, job-share, and flexible arrangements can be discussed)

As the successful candidate, you will bring: 

Essential criteria 

  • Relevant trade certificate/diploma/bachelor’s degree, or equivalent experience in Information Management and Technology. 

  • Ability to obtain and maintain a Negative Vetting 1 security clearance. 

  • Strong oral and written communication skills. 

  • Professional and respectful behaviours in a collaborative environment. 

  • Adaptability to manage multiple competing priorities. 

  • Problem-solving ability for routine technical issues. 

Desirable criteria: 

  • Experience supporting Mac and Linux operating systems. 

  • Experience supporting scientific research equipment.
