The opportunity 

CSIRO is seeking an enthusiastic IT and Baseband Systems Technician to join the team at the New Norcia Deep Space Tracking Facility in Western Australia. As the largest deep space tracking station in the European Space Agency network, the facility supports missions exploring our Solar System and observing the galaxy and Universe.

Working alongside a dedicated team of technicians and engineers, you will help maintain the specialised IT systems, electronics and infrastructure that enable the station to communicate with spacecraft. You will also contribute to rocket launcher tracking activities, technical documentation, configuration and asset management, and the continued safe and reliable operation of the facility.

The position is available on a full-time, part-time or job-share basis. Relocation assistance may be provided if required, and staff based in Perth can access shared transport to the New Norcia facility.

Your high-level duties will include: 

  • Day-to-day maintenance of specialised tracking station equipment including IT systems and general electronics, with some RF.
  • Operations support of rocket launcher tracking, including occasional out-of-hours site attendance.
  • Assisting with creation and ongoing review of station documentation for quality provision of services.
  • Working under an established health and safety system.
  • Working with the systems for configuration and asset management for the station.

 

Role particulars

Location: New Norcia Deep Space Tracking Facility

Salary: AU$73k to AU$93k, plus 15.4% superannuation (also eligible for fleet transport to & from site from Perth)                

Tenure & work schedule: Specified term of 4 years, Full-time

As the successful candidate, you will bring:

Essential criteria

  • Demonstrated experience with and knowledge of Microsoft desktop/laptop maintenance in a domain environment.
  • Demonstrated helpdesk or fault diagnosis experience within an enterprise environment.
  • Demonstrated interpersonal skills necessary to support clients via in-person, phone or remote assistance tools with desktop and/or mobile devices.
  • Proven ability to work effectively as part of a diverse multi-skilled team.
  • Demonstrated willingness to learn new skills and work across a diverse range of tasks and activities.
