As the Team Leader – High Performance Computing (HPC) with CSIRO Information Management and Technology (IMT), you will contribute to strategic and operational plans and ensure IMT services are effectively delivered in line with CSIRO strategy.  You will drive the HPC platform direction of CSIRO, managing the people, roadmap, budget, and project planning, and identifying operational initiatives and service improvement. Leading a highly skilled team, you will manage the day-to-day administration of services, guide training, professional development and skills adoption, and act as the point of coordination for escalation of service incidents and problems.

You will work closely with your team leader peers and build strong stakeholder relationships, to ensure services are delivered appropriately to enable the core science and functional business of CSIRO.  As a domain expert with extensive experience in the implementation and sustainment of scientific computing platforms, you will draw on your industry applied knowledge to ensure that service implementation is achieved through team planning, configuration, testing and interoperability of the solutions.  With considerable autonomy, you will shape the technologies and services to support Australia’s research demands on traditional CPU workloads and the growing areas of accelerator based Artificial Intelligence/Machine Learning.

Specifically you will:

Manage and lead the HPC Team.

Manage the roadmap, budget, and project planning, and identify operational initiatives and service improvement opportunities.

Build strong networked relationships with stakeholders to ensure IMT services that best enable the core science and functional business of CSIRO.

Drive CSIRO’s HPC platform direction and directly manage the capex and opex investment roadmap.

Communicate well, collaborate widely and work effectively as leader and member of a multi-disciplinary team.

Monitor hardware and software used for running a HPC system inclusive of life cycle refresh, maintenance, and license renewals.

Automate node and app deployment across the HPC set of services.

Ensure maximum uptime through rolling update methods and minimising whole of system outages.

Life cycle management of HPC clusters and associated supporting hardware.

Monitor hardware and services for performance and uptime.

Contribute to infrastructure remediation activities and future technology exploration.

Location:           Perth, Canberra, Adelaide, Melbourne, Brisbane, Sydney or Hobart (Negotiable)

Salary:               AU$113k to AU$132k per annum, plus up to 15.4% superannuation (market competitive salary may be negotiated)

Tenure:              Indefinite, full-time

To be considered you will hold a degree in information management or equivalent discipline, or have a minimum of approximately 5 years of experience managing a highly technical information technology team.  You will also have:

Proven ability to liaise directly with multiple areas of a large business and ensure effective delivery of services.

A strong customer focus and a history of building strong networked relationships with key stakeholders.

• Strong management skills with proven success as a leader and member of a multi-disciplinary, regionally dispersed team.

Significant experience negotiating and preparing documentation associated with the procurement of large scale HPC systems.

Experience delivering services to research projects utilising HPC infrastructures.

Experience working with other HPC centres to enable utilisation of facilities to deliver project needs.
