The Opportunity

The ePublishing team within CSIRO Publishing are seeking a self-motivated Web Developer with Java experience. As the successful applicant, you will develop our digital publishing systems and platform solutions. You will be part of a small team that develops and supports an e-commerce business through which book, journal and magazine products are sold.

 

As the Web Developer, you will work through the full development cycle using agile methodology to build and support digital publishing systems. You will also contribute to the online digital publishing and XML digital production workflow.

Your duties will include:

  • Under the supervision and direction of the Digital Publishing Manager, supporting the development of the digital publishing systems and platform.
  • Providing technical support and advice to the Production Team ensuring smooth workflows.
  • Maintaining production systems and recommending improvements to streamline production processes and to ensure system interoperability with external publishing partners.
  • Assisting in monitor business website for security and 24/7 functionality and taking appropriate actions as needed. 

 

Location: Melbourne (Clayton) VIC

Salary: AU$64k - AU$82k plus up to 15.4% superannuation

Tenure:  Specified term of 18 months

To be considered you will need:

  • Tertiary qualifications in a relevant area such as IT or equivalent relevant work experience.
  • Experience in a web-based development role within a commercial environment.
  • Experience with the following:
    • Java Web Application Development, scripting languages including Python, ColdFusion and RMDBs (Oracle and MSSQL).
    • XML/JSON Based web applications development and XML DTD or Schema Design.
    • API Design and Development.
  • A history of supporting the continuous improvement of digital publishing and web technology and service offerings.
  • Excellent communication skills and self-starter with proven ability to work independently and as a team player.
