The opportunity

Are you an experienced energy rater looking for a fresh direction, or an admin professional ready to dive into the technical world of energy efficiency? We are seeking a motivated Project Support Officer to join our team in an exciting ongoing role, and be part of a nationally significant initiative that’s shaping the future of sustainable housing in Australia.

As a Project Support Officer within CSIRO’s Social Impact and Living Labs team, you’ll play a key role in supporting the expansion of the Nationwide House Energy Rating Scheme (NatHERS), helping to improve the way we understand and model residential energy use. You will bring your well-developed communication, coordination and people skills to support researchers, energy raters, real estate professionals, and homeowners in trialling innovative approaches to data collection. From providing front-line customer support and being the public face of sharing CSIRO’s technical knowledge, to contributing to community engagement initiatives & events and supporting researchers with ethics applications, privacy statements and grants, you will have a multi-faceted role that will help drive meaningful change in how energy efficiency is understood and applied.

This role offers exciting career development opportunities, with the chance to grow your technical knowledge and contribute to other impactful projects over time. If you’re looking to step into a new domain with training and support, we would love to hear from you!

Your high-level duties will include:

  • Providing front-line support via the helpdesk for the Existing Homes Trials, assisting users with two key tools: Magicplan (for data collection) and AccuRate Enterprise (for data analysis).
  • Developing and maintaining clear and user-friendly helpdesk articles and support documentation.
  • Participating in scheduled drop-in sessions, offering real-time assistance to users facing technical or process-related challenges.
  • Responding to household enquiries, helping participants better understand their energy rating results and trial involvement.
  • Assisting in the planning and delivery of events, such as environmental media showcases and researcher symposia, in collaboration with the events coordinator and broader team.
  • Performing a variety of administrative tasks, including support for ethics applications, privacy statements, and grant submissions as well as maintaining online subscriptions and payment systems, and helping craft public-facing communication pieces that share key research outcomes in accessible and engaging formats.
  • Selecting the appropriate methods to perform standard analyses and, as required, undertaking technical tasks associated with trials, tests, measurements, reviews and investigations including associated calculations and analysis.
