The HPC and Research Platforms team within the IMT SC group has an opportunity for an experienced HPC System Administrator. In this role you will collaborate with multiple internal teams to design, implement, integrate, administer, and maintain on-prem scalable computing platforms. You will have the opportunity to contribute to the management of our HPC platforms, high performance parallel file systems, advanced visualisation systems and associated networks. You will work closely with team members, technical leads, and senior staff to develop a strategy to support integrated scientific workflows using different components of CSIRO’s hybrid on-prem and multi-cloud platforms. You will have a focus on scientific computing services meeting CSIRO research teams’ requirements across a broad range of disciplines.

Your duties will include:

 

  • Collaborate with other teams to maintain CSIRO research platforms. Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
    • Install, configure, fine-tune and troubleshoot multi-vendor Linux high-performance computing (HPC) systems
    • Configure the scheduling and queuing system
    • Maintain and monitor the security of CSIRO’s high-performance computing (HPC) systems
    • Optimise the operations of high-performance computing clusters through automation
    • Data centre planning
    • Mentor and knowledge sharing
  • Document system administration procedures for routine and complex tasks
  • Follow and contribute to the development of best practice guides and policies, such as application workload management, quota management and cyber security.

Salary: AU$105,806K - AU$114,500K plus up to 15.4% superannuation

To be considered you will need:

Essential:

  1. Tertiary qualification or experience in Science, Engineering, Computer Science or Information Technology or other relevant field
  2. Extensive Linux administration and knowledge in parallel distributed storage architectures such as Lustre
  3. Experience with workload management/job scheduling software for HPC systems (SLURM)
  4. Experience with high level automation techniques using languages such as Python, Bash, and Perl
  5. Experience in producing technical and procedural documentation.
