CSIRO Futures is CSIRO’s strategic and economic advisory arm and a trusted advisor to external private and public sector entities. We are seeking an Economic Consultant to join our team.
 

As an Economic Consultant, you will support the delivery of quantitative modelling components of industry strategy studies and bespoke advisory projects, aimed at informing senior decision makers in government and industry.  You will work on projects focused on understanding science and technology-enabled opportunities and quantifying the market size or cost. You will support projects through data collection, analysis and modelling, report writing and attending meetings with key stakeholders and clients.

Your duties will include:

  • Undertaking market sizing and empirical analysis of long-term trends and emerging technologies on the economy and key industries, with a focus on industry revenue and employment impacts.
  • Undertaking cost driver analysis including modelling a simplified technical process to understand how the costs of each input feed into the final output cost, and comparing costs for different technology options. 
  • Gathering, understanding, analysing and synthesising large amounts of information from disparate sources into logical, robust quantitative and qualitative insights and conclusions.
  • Extracting information from client and industry workshops and interviews.
  • Communicating rigorous quantitative analysis to internal/external stakeholders, providing detailed and accurate information/reports based on robust and transparent evidence. 

 

Location: Melbourne, Sydney, Brisbane (all hybrid of office and working from home)

Salary: AU$73k - AU$93k pa plus 15.4% superannuation

To be considered you will need:

  • A degree in economics, engineering or another relevant discipline. 
  • Experience working in a consulting firm or related university experience (e.g. consulting case competition).
  • Experience applying cost-benefit modelling principles using ambiguous and complex quantitative and qualitative data to understand the impact of trends (such as emerging science and technology developments) on markets and key Australian economic indicators. 
  • Demonstrated ability in applying quantitative analysis to support business strategy and investment decision making.
  • Demonstrated experience or interest in science and technology.
  • Excellent oral communication skills and experience generating professional quality client-facing written reports and deliverables that clearly communicate quantitative analysis and key insights to a senior executive-level audience. This includes the ability to present a clear narrative to help communicate challenging or contentious ideas to fellow team members and clients.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with a demonstrated ability to work effectively in a team environment and to identify and build positive relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
