Digital products are a key part of this. Turning research into high quality and useful digital products accelerates the application of science in the real world. They are pathways for CSIRO to deliver impact through data, software, websites, apps, and services.
This newly created role is central to turning strategy into action. You will play a vital role in elevating CSIRO’s digital products, maturing product practices, and empowering our people to achieve science impact, build trust, and benefit those we serve.
To do this, you will lead efforts to strengthen CSIRO’s digital product capability and culture. You will be a trusted advisor to research leaders who oversee teams working on digital products in science programs, and you will support research teams who are actively discovering and delivering digital products.
This is a role with a clear purpose and ability to make a difference. Your work will help shape the future of CSIRO’s digital products, supporting strategic alignment, sustainability, and increased scientific impact. In turn, this delivers value for end users and key stakeholders, while advancing CSIRO’s vision to create a better future for Australia.
Your duties will include:
- Define digital product roles and responsibilities. Support and provide guidance to colleagues to improve digital product capabilities within research units.
- Establish a vibrant community of practice. Foster collaboration, learning, and innovation across science domains through a CSIRO-wide digital product network.
- Introduce digital product showcases. Develop a method to reward and recognize digital product efforts, experimentation, insights, and impact.
- Develop a toolkit of practical resources and insights to guide product discovery and delivery. This includes self-serve content and designing a refreshed training/coaching offering.
- Shape the development of digital product tooling. This includes working with stakeholders to identify key needs and develop a recommended toolkit / enabling tech stack for product work.
- Collaborate with key stakeholders. This includes research leaders and teams, Digital Leads, Digital Office peers, colleagues in IMT, People, Communications, and external stakeholders as needed.
- Capture insights/opportunities and facilitate problem-solving. Help both mature and new teams troubleshoot common challenges encountered across the digital product capability areas.
- Lead, influence, and coach. Champion good, better, and best product practices. Advocate for accountability and evidence-based decisions. Promote learning and continuous improvement.
Location: All major Australian cities considered
Salary: AU$131,113 to AU$153,639 pa + 15.4% superannuation

To be considered you will need:
- Relevant experience in similar roles delivering demonstrable impact and change (product operations, product coaching/consulting, product management/marketing, learning and development).
- A mature understanding of digital products, product capabilities, and modern product practices, coupled with an understanding of culture/behaviour change and skills uplift/professional development.
- Tertiary qualification/s and/or professional certifications in relevant fields.
- Strong interpersonal skills, high motivation for achieving outcomes and delivering value, comfort navigating ambiguity and complexity, and a resilient, optimistic mindset.
- Exceptional communication and coaching skills, ability to build productive relationships, to curate and create clear and compelling content, and to facilitate an engaged community/network.
- Relevant experience in technology products in large organisations (i.e. software, data, or platforms), and/or within a science research organisation, higher education, or government agency.
