The opportunity 

 

Join CSIRO Energy as the Senior Software Developer in our Energy Flexibility team. This is your chance to make a tangible impact on Australia’s clean energy future. You’ll design and deliver advanced software solutions that enable engineers, scientists, and economists to explore technology and market scenarios, ensuring optimal and equitable energy outcomes for generations to come.

 

 

Your high-level duties will include:

 

  • Apply full-stack software engineering expertise to solve complex, computation-heavy challenges.
  • Architect and deliver distributed software systems using containerisation and inter-process communication frameworks.
  • Act as a trusted advisor, anticipating client and project needs while ensuring quality outcomes.
  • Collaborate across multidisciplinary teams and contribute to CSIRO’s reputation for innovation.
  • Communicate effectively with technical and non-technical stakeholders to meet project objectives.

 

Role particulars

Location and office arrangements: Hobart TAS preferred, Melbourne VIC, Newcastle NSW considered

Salary: AU$135k – AU$158k per annum (pro rata for part-time), plus 15.4% superannuation

Tenure & work schedule: Indefinite; Full-time.

As the successful candidate, you will bring:

Essential

  • A relevant bachelor’s degree with at least 5 years’ experience in software engineering or equivalent.
  • Extensive experience in computation or simulation-focused domains (e.g., electrical engineering, control systems, geosciences).
  • Proven ability to manage complex problems and adapt to changing circumstances.
  • Expertise in architecting and delivering multi-agent or distributed software using containerisation and protocols like gRPC and AMQP.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills for effective collaboration across diverse teams.

 

Desirable

 

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering.
  • Experience with data visualisation libraries and scientific compute languages (e.g., MATLAB).
  • Proficiency in secure web application development using React and TypeScript.
  • Full-stack experience including API design, Python development, and React-based interfaces.
  • Familiarity with formal software modelling, agile methodologies, and a commitment to health, safety, and wellbeing.
