The opportunity

We have a dynamic and inclusive team within the Tissue Culture Team at the CSIRO Australian Centre for Disease Preparedness (ACDP) and we are seeking applicants for the role of a Research Technician. If you take pride in your interpersonal skills and can support diagnostic testing, research projects, and external client programs then this role will require you to get involved in preparing media, buffers, reagents, and cell lines while following SOPs and HSE protocols.

 

Along with maintaining high-quality cell culture standards, this role will also involve inventory management, reagent distribution, and supporting process improvements.  This is an excellent opportunity to apply your technical skills in a flexible, collaborative research environment, contributing to meaningful scientific advancements.

 

It is a 3-day per-week (0.6 FTE) part-time role for a one-year role with the option to choose the days of the week onsite. You can pick any of the days except Wednesday with an option for an early start too. If this sounds like something that excites you, we would love to hear from you!

Your high-level duties will include:

  • Prepare media, buffers, reagents and cell lines per work instructions and health & safety protocols.
  • Maintain inventory and coordinate the distribution of reagents and media.
  • Collaborate with team members to ensure the consistent production of high-quality cell cultures.
  • Monitor quality control processes and perform routine cell culture maintenance including passaging, revival and storage.
  • Contribute to process improvements and support technical knowledge transfer within and out-with the Tissue Culture Team.
  • Under supervision design equipment and adapt techniques to meet special circumstances and client needs.
  • Select the appropriate methods to perform standard analyses, perform non-standard analyses, and maintain complex equipment.
  • Use discretion to decide which methods are used and schedule work to meet future demand.

 

Location: Australian Centre for Disease Preparedness (ACDP) in Geelong, Victoria located on the traditional land of the Wadawurrung people of the Kulin Nation.

Salary: AU$73k - AU$93k per annum (pro-rated for part-time), plus up to 15.4% superannuation (+ any additional allowance as applicable)

Tenure: Specified term of 12 months / Part-time 0.6 FTE (44 hours/ fortnight)

To be considered you will need:

  • A relevant bachelor’s degree in biology, biotechnology or equivalent work experience.
  • Experience with cell culture techniques.
  • Demonstrated ability in routine laboratory techniques, including aseptic media and reagent preparation.
  • Demonstrated ability to work under quality systems and health & safety protocols.
  • Experience with inventory management and distribution.
  • Proficiency in IT software for effective communication and record keeping.
  • Strong communication skills and aptitude for technical knowledge transfer.
