The opportunity

We are seeking an Electrician to join the Engineering team at the Australian Centre for Disease Preparedness (ACDP) in Geelong.

In this role, you will support the operation, maintenance and continuous improvement of the electrical, instrumentation and critical facility systems that enable Australia's premier high-containment research facility to operate safely and effectively.

This hands-on role will see you deliver preventative and corrective maintenance, fault finding, installation and commissioning activities across a broad range of infrastructure, including high-voltage networks, backup power systems, utilities and containment-critical services. You will also contribute to facility upgrades, coordinate specialist contractors and maintain compliance with strict safety, engineering and biosecurity requirements.

As part of a multidisciplinary engineering team, you will help maintain the safe and reliable operation of PC2-PC4 laboratory environments, while participating in annual shutdown activities and an on-call roster supporting critical facility systems.

Your high-level duties will include: 

• Maintaining, repairing and installing industrial electrical systems across the ACDP facility.
• Operating and maintaining the site's high-voltage network and backup generation systems.
• Diagnosing and resolving electrical, instrumentation and control system faults.
• Supporting the installation, commissioning and integration of new electrical and control infrastructure.
• Coordinating specialist contractors and ensuring compliance with safety, biosecurity and permit requirements.
• Maintaining UPS systems and other critical power infrastructure.
• Managing maintenance activities, records and asset documentation through the CMMS.
• Developing and updating technical procedures, engineering records and HSE documentation.
• Preparing compliance documentation and supporting regulatory reporting requirements.
• Participating in annual shutdown activities and contributing to the on-call roster providing after-hours emergency support.

Salary: AU$100k - AU$113k pa + 15.4% superannuation

As the successful candidate, you will bring:

• Victorian A Grade Electrical License (or ability to obtain one if from another state) with relevant post trade experience and relevant trade qualifications for an Electrician.
• Demonstrated electrical maintenance experience across industrial, process industry, building services or manufacturing plant environments, in both installation and operational maintenance work.
• Possession of High Voltage Operators qualification or willingness to acquire high voltage operators’ qualification
• Demonstrated experience independently diagnosing and resolving faults in process control and electrical systems within an industrial environment.
• Competence to accurately interpret control system and electrical schematics, engineering drawings, operating and maintenance manuals.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills including demonstrated experience to effectively work as part of a team.
• A demonstrated commitment to OHS&E, safe working practices, including Lock out - Tag out and permit systems.  
  
  

Desirable Criteria:

• Dual trade certificate III or IV in Electrical Instrumentation.
• Demonstrable understanding of and experience with SCADA or similar plant control systems, programmable logic controllers (PLC) and variable speed drives (VSD).
• Experience with the calibration, maintenance and troubleshooting of instrumentation—such as pressure, temperature, level and flow systems—within an industrial or process plant environment, including exposure to automated control systems and complex plant operations.
• Experience working with high-voltage (HV) systems in an industrial or complex facility environment, including exposure to HV switching, isolation, protection systems and safe work practices associated with high energy electrical distribution.
