The Position

Come work with the Web Geospatial Systems team and help us provide access to and visualize data related to renewable energy, the environment, and earth observation!

As a member of the Web Geospatial Systems team you will work on TerriaJS projects such as AREMI, NEII Viewer, GEOGLAM RAPP Map and  TerriaCube, performing work such as:

  • Develop and maintain both geospatial and non-geospatial web services for use by TerriaJS and other platforms.
  • Transforming data in order to visualise and interact with it on TerriaJS.
  • Build new tools to process and transform data.
  • Communicating and collaborating with stakeholders to enable them to publish their data, manage data layers, and catalogues, on our TerriaJS projects.
  • Manage the cloud infrastructure used to host and run our systems.

Your duties will include:

  • Helping develop, maintain, and operate the systems developed by the Web Geospatial Systems team.
  • Making use of appropriate software development tools and processes for coding efficiency and for ensuring software quality, maintainability and reusability.
  • Working with customers to understand their needs and make sure they are met.
  • Experimenting with technologies, evaluating them and presenting the results.
  • Collaborating effectively with engineering, research, UI/UX and business teams.
  • Contributing to open source development.

Salary:          AU $80K to AU $91K plus up to $15.4% superannuation

Tenure:        Indefinite

To be successful you will:

  • Have experience with geospatial concepts, tools, and formats.
  • Be comfortable working with JavaScript, NodeJS, CSS, HTML, web development.
  • Be experienced with backend development, for example developing services, deployment, etc.
  • Be experienced with Linux/UNIX and working on the command line.
  • Have good software development practices (e.g. version control systems, testing, user requirements, delivery, working methodically, problem solving).
  • Have at least basic skills with SQL.
  • Have demonstrated ability for self-directed learning.
