  • Lead the HPC Team and deliver scalable compute services

CSIRO’s Information Management & Technology (IMT) team is seeking an experienced Team Leader to head the High-Performance Computing (HPC) Team, supporting CSIRO’s large-scale CPU and GPU compute infrastructure. This capability underpins critical research across areas such as climate modelling, genomics, materials science, and AI.

 

The successful candidate will lead a high-performing technical team, foster strong collaborations, and ensure the delivery of reliable, scalable, and innovative HPC services. The role requires a strategic thinker with deep technical expertise, with excellent people leadership skills, and proven experience managing large budgets and complex procurements.

Your duties will include:

  • Manage a large facility, lead staff (possibly representing a range of disciplines) and manage resources.
  • Develop strategic and operational plans for the services and have significant independence of action.
  • Take responsibility for effective team performance including the development of team members. 
  • Represent the organisation on external forums and may establish and lead technical forums.

 

Location: Canberra (preferred) All other Australian Capital cities with CSIRO sites considered

Salary: AU$135K - AU$158K plus up to 15.4% superannuation

To be considered you will need:

  • Proven experience leading technical teams in HPC or large-scale IT infrastructure environments.
  • Strong interpersonal and people management skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to build and maintain strategic partnerships and collaborations.
  • Experience managing large budgets and complex procurement processes.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills.
  • Ability to obtain and NV1 clearance.

Desirable:

  • Deep understanding of HPC architectures, including CPU/GPU clusters, storage, and networking.
  • Familiarity with scientific computing workloads and research environments.
  • Experience working with national HPC facilities.
  • Knowledge of cloud-based HPC and hybrid compute models.
  • Understanding of ITIL or other service management frameworks.
