The opportunity
CSIRO is seeking a dynamic Head of IT Services to lead the delivery of exceptional Information Management and Technology (IM&T) services to over 8,000 employees and affiliates across Australia.
As a key member of the IM&T leadership team, reporting directly to the Chief Information Officer (CIO), you will oversee critical infrastructure and services, including CSIRO’s national network, Microsoft 365 environment, collaboration platforms, and frontline support through our service desk and onsite teams.
This role places the customer experience at its heart. You will champion the voice of the customer, ensuring services and interactions are tailored to meet their needs and deliver real value. By driving continuous improvement in our service catalogue and IT Service Management processes, you will ensure CSIRO’s technology services are reliable, responsive, efficient and customer-focused.

Your high-level duties will include:
- Establish and deliver IMT’s service framework and technology systems to enable efficient operations and innovation across CSIRO.
- Build strong partnerships with Executives, staff, and clients to drive strategic outcomes and provide advice with organisational and sector-wide impact.
- Lead, coach, and empower teams to deliver innovative, customer-focused technology solutions in a collaborative, values-driven environment.
- Manage service delivery and client expectations, driving continuous improvement aligned to CSIRO’s strategic goals and service standards.
- Oversee budgets and ensure compliance with legal, financial, and corporate responsibilities, while promoting safety, diversity, and best practices.
- Champion and lead organisational change, developing and implementing strategic initiatives to enhance service excellence and future-readiness.
Location: All Australian Capital Cities considered
Salary: Attractive salary package plus 15.4% superannuation, negotiable for the right candidate

As the successful candidate, you will bring:
- A degree (or equivalent experience), in conjunction with demonstrated achievement in senior advisory and managerial roles in information technology, management, governance and or enterprise applications, infrastructure, and solutions delivery.
- Demonstrated experience in customer orientated, large scale and complex Information Management & Technology service delivery and operations in one or more of the following; infrastructure services, application delivery, service support, and digital transformation.
- Demonstrated ability to drive a culture of customer focus and performance improvement through the leadership of geographically dispersed/remote teams, and a record of strong leadership that has contributed to or defined policy direction and strategy.
- Proven ability to foster and maintain effective cross organisational relationships, to ensure alignment between customer needs and operational delivery.
- A commitment to safety, integrity, and excellence, with a track record of developing high-performing, inclusive teams and driving positive workplace culture.
- A solid track record in leading major technology implementation projects, procurements, and transition to support and management.
- The successful candidate will be required to obtain and maintain a security clearance at the NV1 level
