Eligibility 

This is a security assessed position. To be eligible you must hold an Australian Citizenship and be willing and able to meet Negative Vetting Level 1 Security requirements. Appointment to this role is subject to provision of a national police check and may be subject to other security, medical, or character requirements.

Location and office arrangements: Flexible to be based in any Australian Capital city with a CSIRO site. Hybrid working available 

Salary: AU$157,833 to AU$174,631 pa (pro-rata for part-time) + up to 15.4% superannuation

The opportunity 

As the Executive Manager – Platforms Information & Infrastructure Services, you’ll provide strategic leadership for CSIRO’s core technology infrastructure within the Information Management and Technology (IMT) unit. You’ll oversee the secure, resilient and high-performance platforms that power CSIRO’s research and enterprise work including national-scale storage, cloud services, data centres, computing and high-performance research environments. 

Working closely with IMT leaders and program heads, you’ll ensure infrastructure aligns with organisational priorities, supports emerging technologies, and remains sustainable and adaptable. As a key member of the IMT leadership team, you’ll help shape CSIRO’s strategic direction while keeping essential services running smoothly and driving transformational change across the organisation. 

 

Your high-level duties will include: 

  • Provide strategic leadership and management of the Platforms Group, ensuring CSIRO maintains secure, resilient, and scalable infrastructure. 

  • Lead the five teams within the group to deliver enterprise-grade capabilities across storage, data protection, virtualisation, cloud, HPC, physical infrastructure, and facilities management. 

  • Collaborate with IMT Executive Managers and Heads of Programs to align infrastructure with service delivery and enterprise priorities. 

  • Maintain a customer focus in the team and continually evolve services to meet customer requirements and needs. 

  • Ensure infrastructure platforms are positioned to support CSIRO’s science and enterprise objectives, including scalability, sustainability, and emerging technology adoption. 

  • Drive operational excellence and continuous improvement across infrastructure services, with a focus on customer needs, efficiency, security, and reliability. 

  • Oversee budget, resource allocation, and risk management for the Platforms program. 

  • Represent Platforms within IMT governance forums, contributing to organisational strategy, enterprise planning, and transformational initiatives. 

 

As the successful candidate, you will bring: 

Essential criteria 

  • Relevant tertiary qualification in IT and/or equivalent experience leading enterprise-wide solutions. 

  • Proven ability to lead large-scale infrastructure programs, including management of complex platforms such as storage, cloud, virtualisation, HPC, and facilities. 

  • Demonstrated experience in strategic planning and delivery of secure, resilient, and scalable infrastructure in a research or enterprise context, including:  

    • Budget management, resource planning, and risk management;

    • Managing vendor relationships, contracts, and partnerships. 

  • Strong leadership capability with a track record of building high-performing, customer-focused teams. 

  • Excellent communication and influencing skills, able to represent infrastructure priorities at organisational forums and with external stakeholders 

Desirable Criteria 

  • Experience in delivering programs that support organisational transformation, business process simplification, and increased effectiveness.
