The opportunity
As part of the Facilities team, the Electrician/HVAC Technician works under limited supervision to carry out a range of tasks, including the installation, maintenance, modification, and fault repair of complex antenna systems, building power, and HVAC systems. The role also involves mentoring apprentices and overseeing contractors engaged for external maintenance work. Responsibilities will vary depending on experience and are determined in consultation with the Facilities Team Leader.
Your duties will include:
- Perform maintenance, fault repair, installations, and upgrades on power, HVAC, and BMS systems.
- Monitor and respond to faults, alarms, audits, incidents, and requests, liaising with internal and external stakeholders including CSIRO and JPL.
- Provide specialist technical advice and updates on complex faults, modifications, and equipment enhancements.
- Supervise contractors to ensure compliance with security, licensing, and safety standards.
- Maintain and update configuration systems, maintenance schedules, and technical documentation.
- Support reliability and efficiency through the use of RCM and CMMS tools, and participate in DSN inspections and reporting.
- Promote a culture of safety, wellbeing, and inclusion by adhering to CSIRO's Code of Conduct, HSE policies, and procurement procedures.
Location: Canberra Deep Space Communication Complex (CDSCC) Tidbinbilla, ACT
Salary: AU$90,206 to AU$118,538 pa, plus Tracking Station Allowance of $133.81 per week, Electricians license allowance of $52.56 per week, plus annual Antenna Allowance of $735 per annum, plus 15.4% superannuation

Essential Criteria:
Under CSIRO policy only those who meet all essential criteria can be appointed.
- Trade qualifications in both Refrigeration Mechanics and Electrical.
- ACT Driver’s Licence.
- White Card, asbestos awareness, and silica dust certification (or willingness to obtain upon commencement).
- Minimum of two years’ experience in an industrial maintenance or operations environment.
- Experience working with Building Management Systems (BMS) and Programmable Logic Controllers (PLCs).
Desirable Criteria:
- Further education in HVAC, PLC, or electrical disciplines.
- Experience with high-voltage switchgear switching and coordination.
- Familiarity with Maximo and/or SAP business systems.
- Additional certifications/licences, including:
- Forklift licence
- Working at Heights and Confined Spaces training
- Elevated Work Platform (EWP) licence
