The opportunity 

The Canberra Deep Space Communication Complex (CDSCC) supports ground-based spacecraft telecommunications as part of the international National Aeronautic Space Administration (NASA) Deep Space Network (DSN), under contractual arrangements between NASA and the Commonwealth Scientific and Industrial Research Organisation (CSIRO).

 

Join the ICT team at the Canberra Deep Space Communication Complex and contribute to the reliable delivery of technology services supporting NASA’s Deep Space Network.

In this hands-on role, you will provide ICT support across desktop and laptop systems, servers, network infrastructure, critical communications, collaboration tools, data storage, physical security systems and cyber security services. You will be a key contact for ICT enquiries, diagnosing and resolving first-level issues while escalating more complex matters when required.

This is an exciting opportunity for an adaptable and customer-focused ICT professional who enjoys solving problems, learning new technologies and working collaboratively across a diverse range of technical activities. The role is available on an indefinite basis, with full-time or part-time arrangements from 0.6 to 0.9 FTE available. Relocation assistance may also be provided to the successful candidate, if required. Your high-level duties will include: 

  • Configure, install and maintain desktops, laptops and standard system images.
  • Provide first-level technical support, fault diagnosis and equipment repairs.
  • Assist with server installations, configurations and related ICT activities.
  • Manage daily helpdesk operations and identify opportunities to automate processes.
  • Research emerging technologies and contribute solutions to ICT planning and problem management.
  • Document procedures and configurations, communicating advice clearly and escalating complex issues when required.

 

Role particulars

Location: Tidbinbilla, ACT – Canberra Deep Space Communication Complex (CDSCC)

Salary: AU$77,792 to AU$105,250 pa, plus Tracking Station Allowance of $139.16 per week, plus 15.4% superannuation (also eligible for fleet transport to & from site within a defined Canberra region)                

Tenure & work schedule: Indefinite, Full-time on a 9-day fortnightly schedule or part-time of atleast 0.6FTE

As the successful candidate, you will bring:

Essential criteria

  • Demonstrated experience with and knowledge of Microsoft desktop/laptop maintenance in a domain environment.
  • Demonstrated helpdesk or fault diagnosis experience within an enterprise environment.
  • Demonstrated interpersonal skills necessary to support clients via in-person, phone or remote assistance tools with desktop and/or mobile devices.
  • Proven ability to work effectively as part of a diverse multi-skilled team.
  • Demonstrated willingness to learn new skills and work across a diverse range of tasks and activities.

Desirable

  • Demonstrated ability to write technical documentation.
  • Knowledge, Skills or experience with cybersecurity disciplines.
