The opportunity 
Health, Safety, and Environment (HSE) partners with all levels of CSIRO, coaching and influencing individuals to take personal responsibility for safety. HSE is committed to driving future-focused, innovative programs that significantly enhance CSIRO’s wellbeing and safety culture.

As an HSE Systems & Assurance Officer, you will join the HSE Systems & Assurance team and play an important role in maintaining and improving CSIRO’s HSE Management System. You will support the review, coordination and publication of HSE procedures, ensuring they remain current, practical and aligned to CSIRO’s diverse operational environment.

This is an excellent opportunity for an early career HSE professional looking to gain experience in Health and Safety policy and procedures within a diverse and purpose-led organisation. 

Your high-level duties will include: 

• Coordinating HSE procedure reviews in collaboration with procedure owners and subject matter experts across CSIRO.
• Maintaining governance tools and records to support effective management of HSE procedures.
• Supporting consultation activities and gathering stakeholder feedback on proposed procedure updates.
• Publishing approved policy and procedure updates through CSIRO’s online systems and portals.
• Providing administrative and coordination support throughout the procedure review lifecycle.
• Monitoring timelines and communicating expectations to stakeholders to ensure review activities remain on track.
• Promoting a proactive safety culture through positive behaviours and commitment to HSE principles.

Role particulars

Location: Brisbane (Pullenvale preferred, Dutton Park and St Lucia also available)

Salary: AU$76k – AU$96k per annum + 15.4% superannuation

Tenure: Specified term of 12 months, Full-time

As the successful candidate, you will bring:

• Relevant qualification such as a Cert IV, Diploma or Bachelor’s degree in work, health and safety, or environmental science
• Demonstrated experience in the development and review of work, health and safety, or environmental management system procedures aligned with ISO 45001 and/or ISO 14001
• A practical mindset that prioritises the quality and usability of work, health and safety processes over volume or complexity
• Goal oriented, with experience in progressing project work in a large complex organisation
• Relevant experience with Sitecore or similar intranet publishing software
• Sound written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to engage confidently with a wide range of stakeholders
• Comfort working with a high degree of autonomy, supported by guidance and collaboration with the HSE Manager (Systems and Assurance)

• Experience in a scientific research and/or laboratory related industry or equivalent.
