The opportunity
CSIRO’s Health, Safety and Environment (HSE) team partners across the organisation to foster a strong safety culture and support the wellbeing of our people. We have an opportunity for a HSE Advisor to join our team and support our South East Queensland sites.

As our new HSE Advisor, you will deliver HSE services within your region, providing practical and technical advice to a diverse range of stakeholders. A strong emphasis of your role will be on education, coaching, and training that builds capability, supports informed decision-making, and promotes shared accountability for safety.

Working with a high degree of independence across multiple sites, you will identify risks and opportunities for improvement, advise on complex HSE matters, and lead the development and implementation of strategic safety initiatives.

Your high-level duties will include: 

• Plan and deliver key HSE activities and initiatives aligned to CSIRO’s HSE Plan, ensuring consistency across sites in the region.
• Contribute to HSE Plan projects and positively challenging the status quo to drive continual HSE improvement across the organisation.
• Build and maintain strong relationships with site work groups, understanding their unique HSE needs, and providing recommendations to guide management decisions.
• Develop and review policies, procedures and systems and offer solutions to challenging HSE issues in partnership with relevant work groups.
• Provide hands-on HSE support to operational staff and liaising with the HSE Specialist when more specialist HSE support is needed. 
• Facilitate audit and inspection activities across sites within the allocated region to ensure CSIRO HSE activities and management system is consistently and successfully implemented.

Location: Pullenvale, QLD

Salary: AU$100k - AU$113k pa + 15.4% superannuation

Tenure: Indefinite, Full-time
Flexible work arrangements available, including hybrid working up to 2 days per fortnight

As the successful candidate, you will bring:

• A relevant trade certificate (eg. Cert 4 in Work Health and Safety) or equivalent relevant work experience in Health, Safety & Environment, Risk Management or related fields.
• Demonstrated ability to collaborate with HSE staff and key stakeholders to foster a positive safety culture and build strong relationships, with a capacity to adapt to changing environments and challenges to achieve team objectives.
• Proven experience in understanding stakeholder priorities and working with HSE teams to design, deliver, and implement effective communication strategies (both written and verbal, such as training) to ensure consistent messaging across the organisation.
• Experience in facilitating knowledge transfer within HSE teams and across stakeholders, while providing support, guidance, and coaching to colleagues, encouraging open communication and strong collaboration.
• Proven ability to interpret legislation and regulatory standards, as well as other relevant information, to proactively identify potential issues and respond appropriately.
• Hold a current Australian Drivers Licence, as some driving between sites may be required.
