The opportunity

We are seeking a Media Advisor to play a critical role in amplifying CSIRO’s science and impact through earned and owned media.

As the Media Advisor, you will manage CSIRO’s Media Centre and triage incoming media requests to the dedicated media line and inbox. You will help to identify storytelling opportunities, devise and deliver PR/media strategies, nurture strategic media relationships, pitch stories, and assist in effective issues management.

You’ll draw on your strong media relations experience, within public relations or journalism, to craft compelling pitches that generate coverage. Success in this role requires a strong news sense, a flair for storytelling and the use of strong visuals and a good understanding of how social and digital media intersect.

Your high-level duties will include:

Acting as the central liaison point for media outlets. At times, managing the media phone and email out of hours, and managing scheduling of the weekend/public holiday roster.
Uploading media releases to CSIRO’s website, distributing releases through Isentia and news wires as needed. Providing advice and training to Communication staff as required for uploading media release content.
Working with Communications and other stakeholders to identify story opportunities, developing and executing multi-platform media campaigns that harness the news cycle to raise CSIRO’s profile on topics of strategic significance to targeted audiences.
Supporting communication peers across research units with pitching stories to ensure the best possible outcome.
Identifying storytelling opportunities; writing and providing input into media releases, owned articles, social and digital media, videos and multimedia content, and other content as required.

As the successful candidate, you will bring:

A relevant tertiary qualification in journalism, communication or public relations or equivalent experience within large or complex organisations.
Demonstrated experience devising and delivering PR/integrated communication campaigns that have cut-through and achieve objectives with target audiences.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills with well-honed abilities in pitching to media, writing media releases, sub-editing and editing for a wide range of audiences and channels.

The opportunity

The Cotton Breeding Group develops new cotton varieties for the Australian cotton industry. In this hands-on role, you will support field and greenhouse operations, trial maintenance, sample processing, and the sowing and harvest of cotton experiments at Myall Vale and other regional sites across NSW and QLD.

Your high-level duties will include:

Assist with planting, weeding and maintenance of field experiments. Please note this position requires willingness and ability to travel to these sites at short notice during cotton planting and harvest.
Assist with hand and machine harvest of experiments at the Australian Cotton Research Institute and other district sites.
Gin and process machine and hand harvested cotton samples, undertake cotton fibre quality testing.
Prepare seed for planting, including delinting, packaging and arranging according to plans.
Assist with other operations within the CSIRO cotton breeding program, such as crossing, leaf tissue sampling.
Be an active member of a large team, contributing to an extensive cotton breeding program aimed at developing improved cultivars.

The Canberra Deep Space Communication Complex (CDSCC) supports ground-based spacecraft telecommunications as part of the international National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) Deep Space Network (DSN), under contractual arrangements between NASA and the Commonwealth Scientific and Industrial Research Organisation (CSIRO).

We are seeking a Facilities Technician – Grounds and Environment to join our Facilities team. In this role, you will contribute to the ongoing upkeep and performance of critical site infrastructure, grounds, and environmental systems that support mission operations.

You will work under limited direction, undertaking maintenance activities across a diverse range of facilities systems, while supporting contractors and ensuring compliance with safety and environmental standards.

Assessment of currently available process concepts for liquid absorbent reclamation including experimental evaluation of the most relevant ones.
Development of novel reclamation process concepts through theoretical and practical analysis.

The SKA-Low Telescope is part of the global SKA Observatory, a next-generation radio astronomy facility that will transform our understanding of the universe. Located in remote Western Australia on Wajarri Yamaji Country, SKA-Low is one of the world’s most ambitious scientific infrastructure projects, bringing together international partners, cutting-edge technology, and multidisciplinary expertise to deliver unprecedented research capability for decades to come.

In this context, the Field Team Supervisor will play a key role in delivering the SKA-Low Telescope by leading a team of technicians and field engineers responsible for maintaining critical field infrastructure. You will oversee day-to-day field operations, ensuring work is carried out safely, efficiently and to a high standard of quality, while supporting both construction and ongoing maintenance activities.

You will plan and coordinate field work, provide technical guidance, and work closely with internal teams, contractors, and key stakeholders to support delivery in a dynamic and remote environment. Essential

Demonstrated relevant qualifications and/or equivalent experience across university education, technical training, trades, military service, or related hands-on operational roles.
Proven experience in leading, supporting and empowering teams in industrial, scientific, construction or engineering environments.
Strong interpersonal skills, with the ability to motivate, develop, and inspire a multi-disciplinary team.
Experience in implementing safety protocols and risk management strategies, preferably in remote or technical settings.

The successful candidate will be required to undertake a pre-employment background check and a pre-employment medical examination prior to commencement. They will also be required to hold an Australian State/Territory issued light vehicle licence and be willing and ready to operate a 4WD.

Also due to the nature of the role, the successful candidate must be able to work safely in remote outdoor environments, walk on uneven terrain for extended periods, undertake frequent FIFO travel from Geraldton (4 days on/3 days off) via small aircraft, and safely lift and carry items of up to 10 kg.

The opportunity

As NEAC’s Product Designer, you will design the user experience for NEAC’s main audiences:

enabling thousands of Living Lab households and businesses to participate in citizen science, elevating the understanding of everyday energy use; and
providing government, research and commercial partners with premium tools and data to tackle the most difficult challenges in the energy transition.

You’ll work across the full creative arc: from ‘what if?’ concept explorations and promotional materials that make NEAC compelling to industry and government audiences, through interactive prototypes, to production-ready screen flows and UI specifications that Engineering can build with clarity.

You’ll own the visual language of NEAC’s interface design, its design system, and the graphic work that presents NEAC to the world — website, business development demonstrations, and the kind of visual storytelling that turns complex analytical science into something a first-time user can navigate with confidence.

Your collaborators will include researchers, product managers, engineers, and clients from government and private industry. At CSIRO, design is a form of science communication, and in this team your work is visible in every stakeholder conversation.

We’re looking for a designer whose instinct is fundamentally visual and human-centred — someone who thinks in composition and typography as well as user flows and journey maps. If your portfolio shows original visual craft alongside rigorous UX process, this role was written for you.

Your high-level duties will include:

Design high-quality, production-ready user interfaces for NEAC’s digital products, ensuring visually compelling, accessible experiences that meet WCAG standards.
Develop and maintain NEAC’s design system, including component libraries, style guides, interaction patterns and brand standards to ensure consistency across products and platforms.
Create design artefacts across the full product lifecycle, from concept exploration and prototyping through to developer-ready specifications, websites and marketing collateral.
Simplify complex analytical workflows, data visualisations and energy system information into intuitive experiences for both technical and non-technical users.
Plan and conduct user research and usability testing with diverse stakeholders, translating insights into product improvements and design decisions.
Collaborate with engineers, researchers and product stakeholders to deliver feasible, well-documented designs and support seamless implementation.

Location and office arrangements: Canberra, Hobart, Melbourne, Newcastle (or any major CSIRO Energy site considered)

Salary: AU$118k – AU$127k per annum (pro rata for part-time), plus 15.4% superannuation

As the successful candidate, you will bring:

Essential

A strong commercial portfolio demonstrating original visual craft and the ability to handle genuine complexity — interfaces that have been designed, not assembled.
Mastery of Figma and a fluent modern design workflow from early concepts through to developer collaboration.
Experience with information-dense, data-rich products, where translating complex analytical outputs into a clear, navigable interface is itself a creative problem.
User research and usability testing capability, including working directly with stakeholders to translate their needs into design.
Clear, confident communication of design decisions to engineers, researchers and clients across government and industry.

Familiarity with front-end development (React, HTML/CSS) is useful but secondary to design skill. We want someone who can hold their own on making a prototype, but can let that go and work as a team with engineering when it’s time for build.
